WHAT DOES GCED PROVIDE FOR MEMBER DISTRICTS?

GCED provides programs and services for students throughout Goodhue County.

  • Alternative Education -- Alternative Education refers to programming that is non-traditional. The main mechanism for this programming is via Area Learning Center (ALC) programming. GCED alternative education also includes: 
         --Credit Recovery
         --Independent Study and Summer School
         --Middle School (grades 6-7 at Pathways)
         --High School (grades 8-12 at Cannon Falls and Tower)
         --Online Programming via FUEL

         --Targeted Services

  • Early Childhood
          --Birth-Age 3
          --Early Childhood Family Education
          --Learning Readiness Home Visits
          --Preschool Programs for 3-5 year-olds

  • English Learners --The mission of the Goodhue County Education District EL program is to:
         1) support student proficiency to the point where English Learner services are no
             longer needed;

         2) serve as a link among the school, students, and parents; and
         3) promote general academic success.

         --REACH
         --STEP Transitions Program
         --Upwards


  • Special Education --  All students of our member districts are eligible to receive special education services provided by or through GCED. These services provided to member districts are determined by students' identified needs.
         --Blind/Visual Impairment
         --Early Childhood Special Education
         --Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
         --Hearing Impaired
         --Educational Audiology
         --Occupational Therapy
         --School Psychology
         --Physical and Health Disabilities (PHD) Assistive Technology (AT)
         --District Special Education Coordinators (DSEC)

Goodhue County Education District is a group of six southeastern Minnesota school districts: Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Kenyon-Wanamingo, Lake City, Red Wing and Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Working  together, the districts provide effective and efficient educational services and funding for special education programs, staff development, extended and alternative summer school services.
