The steps in the MTSS Intervention Process are to be followed by all GCED member districts and their staff as they work to support the learning needs of all students. Data collection is vital. Instructional coaches will assist district with data collection on universal benchmarks.
The referral process begins with a teacher referral, parent referral, or universal screening data. Multiple sources of data are required; referrals are not based on a test score. Parents must be notified when a student starts an intervention.
The problem solving process has multiple levels beginning with the most basic.
Student/Parent and Teacher
Grade Level Team/PLCs (Professional Learning Communities)
School Level Team (Building Leadership Team)
NOTE: Guidelines/expectations for school level teams will be further developed in 2015-16, including data storage. A school level team needs balanced representation of grade-level staff, general education and special education staff. This team reviews file for further problem identification and intensive analysis.
